Bucks' Brook Lopez blames Gary Trent Jr.'s headband for his first career exit: "He talked to me"

Lopez was kicked out in part for grabbing Trent's headband during an altercation in the
fourth quarter.

The Milwaukee Bucks picked up a much-needed 130-122 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night, in what was a highly entertaining game despite the absences of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton. They also had to play the final 6:40 without Brook Lopez, who was ejected for the first time in his 15-year career following an altercation near the Raptors bench.

In the middle of the frame, Lopez got tangled up with Gary Trent

Jr. in the paint while Jrue Holiday got inside for a layup. With their arms hooked together, Lopez walked Trent down towards the baseline and grabbed his headband off his head. At that point, multiple players from both teams got involved in the scrum, along with Raptors coaches and various security personnel.

López says there was some shoving and exchange  of "cromulent" words, but nobody left the bank and the situation didn't escalate from there. Still, Lopez was kicked out for two different techniques: one for removing Trent's headband and one for trying to get back into the fray after being pushed aside. Also, OG Anunoby and Raptors assistant coach Jamal Magloire received techniques for their roles. It seemed the excitement was over; Both Raptors  head coach Nick Nurse and Bucks' head coach Mike Budenholzer downplayed the event in their post-game press conferences. However, Lopez had other ideas.

Over several minutes, goaded by Joe Ingles, Lopez produced one of the most memorable post-game performances of his career.

Here are his thoughts on the expulsion in their entirety:

Zora Stephenson, Bucks Field Reporter: What frustrated you most?

López: I can't expect the referees to do well if they don't do well. Why will they get it right during the game if they call it back or any of the other calls? probably, but they also make mistakes. You made mistakes tonight. They're human, they're fallible, and even with the help of repetition they're still struggling, so that's okay.

Stephenson: Did you watch the rest of the game in the dressing room?

Lopez: I did it! It was fun.  Basketball is a fun game.

Ingles: I just want to know what happened to Gary Trent's headband. Why did it land on the ground?

Lopez: Should I answer Joe's question? It drove me so crazy that I had to do it. do something. He spoke to me. Make Sure This Never Airs: You know how serial killers say the dog was talking in their apartment building? The tiara spoke to me.

Ingles: Did you answer the question? trying to get a serious answer about how her headband ended up on the floor.

Lopez: I don't know. I didn't see anything happen. I should have gotten minus two Ts if that makes sense. I like to keep going like free cards get out of jail. It was that good.

I was a good person out there. You see, I was a good person. Steve Trent, whatever the guy's name was, wanted to hug me. He wanted to hug me, he was such a good person...

Ingles: I think you are a lovely person.

Lopez: Exactly, thanks. He must have too. Lopez, who finished the game with 19 points despite an early exit, said he couldn't predict the future so he wasn't sure more throws could be expected. Still, he's glad the Bucks have three days off before their next game on Saturday. The break gives you time to freshen up.

"Yeah, seriously, now's a good time," Lopez said.
